    The Bronx is the northernmost of the Five Boroughs of New York City and the newest of the 62 counties of New York State. It is located northeast of Manhattan and south of Westchester County. The Bronx is the only borough situated primarily on the North American mainland. In 2009, the population is 1,391,903, living on 42 square miles of land, making the Bronx fourth of the five boroughs in population, fourth in area, and third in density of population.

Baseball fans should take the opportunity to see the famous New York Yankees play a game at Yankee Stadium. The New York Botanical Garden is another attraction boasting several different themed gardens and a place on the list of National Historic Places.     The centerpiece of this popular park is Indian Lake, where kids go to sail model boats. In August, Crotona Park is the site of the Bronx Tennis Classic, a professional competition of top seeded players.

    Joyce Kilmer Park
    Grand Concourse & 161st Street Bronx, NY

    Named after the American author and poet best known for his poem Trees, Joyce Kilmer Park sits across from the Bronx County Building and is a hub of year-round activity. Its centerpiece is the Heinrich Hein Fountain (also called the Lorelei Fountain) beautifully restored in 1999.

    Mullaly Skate Park
    McClellan Street, Jerome & River Aves. East 162nd St. Bronx, NY 10451

    The first skate park built in the city has inclined ramps called wedges, quarter-pipes and spines and grind rails - waist high apparatuses that skaters and bikers jump over or hop onto and slide along. Skate guards oversee the park to make sure that participants wear their armor-helmets and elbow and knee pads-and are protected.

    Hall of Fame For Great Americans

    This 630-foot long, semi-circular colonnade is the nation′s original Hall of Fame and a majestic tribute to Americans who have significantly contributed to human advancement.     The Longwood Arts Gallery is the visual arts facility of the Bronx Council on the Arts. The alternative visual arts exhibition space, once an elementary school, features the works of emerging, underrepresented and inner city artists. The Gallery is in the Longwood Historic District, a small, architecturally cohesive enclave of semi-detached residences with magnificent embellishments.

    Touring the Maritime Museum is like strolling through the
    history of naval travel. The main exhibit area encompasses the history of
    seafaring from the ancient Phoenicians to present day steamship and passenger

    instruments documenting progress from the earliest sailing vessels to modern
    technology. The Museum is located on the beautiful, waterfront campus of the
    State University of New York Maritime College.

    Starving Artist Studio & Gallery

    Elliot Glick, the artist formerly known as starving, is the proprietor of this charming gallery and studio with its emphasis on Mr. Glick′s handmade jewelry.     The Judaica Museum of the Hebrew Home for the Aged at Riverdale is an educational resource and holds a significant collection of objects, paintings and textiles from Jewish religion, arts and culture. The extraordinary Ralph and Leuba Baum Collection of over 800 ceremonial objects is the centerpiece of its holdings, which in recent years has been enhanced by hundreds of other donations to the Museum.

    Bronx General Post Office

    This impressive building occupies a full square block and is one of the signature structures of the Grand Concourse. Be sure to go inside and view the 13 murals by Ben Shahn (1898-1969), one of the best-known American protest painters of the 1930s. His murals, created as part of a Depression era publicly-sponsored program, are found in facilities around the country.

    Fonthill Castle at the College of Mt. St. Vincent

    Romantically located on a bluff overlooking the Hudson River, Fonthill was completed in 1852 as a home for the eras most distinguished actor, Edwin Forrest, and named after William Beckfords famous English castle, Fonthill Abbey. Now used for administrative offices, it is one of several landmarks on the campus of the College of Mount St. Vincent.

The campus is often the site of concerts by the Bronx Arts Ensemble and other borough performing groups.
